Collaboration - August 4th / 23
VOX MARMORIS 2023: To See. To Hear. Beyond
The sixth edition of VOX MARMORIS, an extraordinary event that transformed the Carrara Marble quarries into a unique stage, was held on July 29 at the striking marble deposit "Successori Adolfo Corsi" in Colonnata. This extraordinary combination of music and art offered an unforgettable multi-sensory experience.
The Line Up: Dimitri From Paris and DJ Ralf on the International Stage
After last year's triumph with the presence of Hunee, this year's International Stage hosted Dimitri From Paris, a master of the consoles with over 30 years of career behind him. Born in Peckham to Turkish Cypriot parents, Dimitri has conquered consoles around the world, collaborating with such prestigious brands as Chanel, Jean Paul Gautier and Yves Saint Laurent.
Alongside him, Italian veteran DJ Ralf shared the stage, bringing his years of experience in the clubbing world.
As every year, Vox Marmoris SoundSystem performed, a team composed of Matteo Zarcone aka ZEE, a DJ and producer with several years of activity and releases behind him; host Giulio Corsi aka THE QUARRIER, a young and talented DJ and producer from Carrara who lives between Italy and Berlin; and finally Filippo Giorgi aka DJ FILO, with a disco and boogie sound.
Visual Art: 'HERTZ HZ' and 'DISTANTIA' Illuminate the Night
The visual part, curated by Olivia aka '.O', proposed a unique connection between sound and nature through light, with site-specific performances and unique audio/video shows by contemporary artists.
An innovative project presented for the first time was "HERTZ HZ," an interactive audiovisual installation that involved nature, working machines and new media. By studying the vibrations of the Calagio Quarry, the Berlin-based Collective Ephemeral Tomorrow translated the mountain frequencies and sound into real-time light signals, projected through special lasers provided by Renowned Sollinger Company.
In addition, the live show "DISTANTIA" combined visual art and music thanks to Roman artist Franz Rosati. Using satellite data, images and sounds from distant places were projected and manipulated directly onto the marble of the arena, offering a unique show.
The Arena: A Unique Stage in the Heart of the Quarries
At 500 meters above sea level, the "VOX MARMORIS ARENA" was set up in the marble deposit. A perimeter of blocks delimited the space where the audience could enjoy the breathtaking spectacle, including video mapping, lighting effects and depth effects.
The intent was to fully enhance the artistic potential of such a unique location as marble quarries and storage, turning it into a stage for art and culture.
